Saint Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland. He was made the official patron saint at the declaration of Arbroath in 1320. However he is not only the patron Saint of Scotland but other countries including Romania, Greece and Russia.
He was born between AD 5 and AD 10 in Bethsaida and it is believed that St Andrew was a Galilean fisherman who became one of the 12 apostles. He was the brother of Saint Peter and they both lived in Galilee, unfortunately though very little else is known about his life.
On the 30th November St Andrews Day is marked with a celebration of Scottish culture including traditional food, music, dance and of course shortbread. We have a range of shortbread available for St Andrews Day including our Saltire Tin.
